The Bayelsa State PDP Stakeholders Forum has called on the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, to call the Governor of Bayelsa State, Honorable Henry Seriake Dickson to order, over what it described as his dictatorial tendencies and assault, on the leading lights of the party, in Bayelsa State.
The group said if unchecked, the conduct of Governor Seriake Dickson could endanger the party’s chances in the State, during the 2019 polls.
In a statement issued in Yenegoa, on Thursday, and signed by its Chairman, Chief George Amaibi, the group accused Governor Dickson, of acting in such manners, which do not only threaten the unity of the party in Bayelsa State, but also endangering the chances of the party in the State, as it prepares for the 2019, general elections.
“It is very unfortunate, that Governor Dickson has in a deliberate manner, resorted to unwarranted abuse and issuance of threat, on leaders and stakeholders within the party, in our state, in order to justify his unpopular decision, to impose his preferred candidates on the party, ahead of the 2019 elections, without giving respect, to leaders and stakeholders in the party, despite their immeasurable sacrifices, towards building PDP, to what it is, in Bayelsa State today” the statement stated.
The group further cited example of a recent statement, credited to the Bayelsa Governor, where He threatened to expel certain members of the party for lack of discipline, as one step taken to far, in usurping what ordinarily should be the powers of the elected officials of the party, and not the Governor of a State.
The group said if the National leadership of the party, fails to call Governor Dickson to order, the public, particularly the teeming members of PDP in Bayelsa State, may view them as complicit, and this may cast an unhealthy aspersion on the integrity of the National leadership of the party.
“It is our hope, that the National leadership of our party, will step in immediately and call governor Seriake Dickson to order, as we can no longer allow him, to continually denigrate genuine party members and leaders, who have toiled so hard, to make Bayelsa PDP, what it is today. Governor Dickson has continued to show great contempt and unimaginable disregard, towards our leaders, including former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and we are now ready, more than ever, to put a stop, to this unwarranted assault on our corporate integrity. ” the statement concluded.
