Social Democratic Party (SDP) has pay tribute to the Late Justice Idris Kutigi for his selfless services he rendered to the Nation, saying that his death was a great shock to the Party and the country at large.
According to the press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Alfa Mohammed, and made available to TraceReporter, “We received with great shock, the news of the passing away of the Former Chief Justice Idris Kutigi, whose sad incident occurred last Sunday in a London Hospital.
“It was indeed a rude shock to the entire leadership and members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and we are saddened that Nigeria has lost one of the best legal luminary it ever had.
“His death is another monumental loss which Nigerian cannot never recover from, considering the selfless service, exemplary leadership and enormous contribution he has made towards the growth of the justice system and Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
“Without mincing words, Justice Kutigi is a quintessential justice, who in the course of his career in the judiciary, served Nigeria meritoriously.
“He is a rear icon who tirelessly contributed immensely to the development of the judiciary in Nigeria by upholding the Rule of Law and independence of the judiciary arm of government as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“Justice Kutigi is not only an epitome of justice, equity and fairness which our great party strongly believes in but, an exceptional administrator who carried out his constitutional duties without fear or favour. He will be missed greatly.
“Needless to mention, the great leadership capacity exhibited by him while handling the sensitive national task as the Chairman of the 2014 Constitutional Conference and the eventual role he played towards making far-reaching recommendations for the development and stability of our nation.
“His commitment to the law, justice and democracy will never be forgotten easily even in many years to come.
“We the SDP family wish to use this medium to commiserate with late Justice Kutigi’s family over his demise as we pray that God Almighty will condole the family and grant them the fortitude to bear the irrepairable loss.
“We also wish to condole with the state government and people of Niger over the loss of their illustrious son, a true Nigerian, whose remarkable contributions will remain an indelible imprint in the minds of Nigeria and the country at large”.
