Alhaji Alfa Mohammed is the National Publicity Secretary of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in this Interview with Trace Reporter in Kaduna, woos Senator Shehu Sani to join the party, said the incessant harassment and embarrassment being melted on him by kaduna APC is an indication that his Not wanted in the party, he also bears his mind on the forth coming SDP ward and LG Congress; excepts:
Q:Can you tell us why you are in Kaduna?
We are in Kaduna to conduct the Ward and Local Governments Congresses and come Saturday, 4th August we shall conduct the state congress. So far so good, the elections have done so far have been very peaceful, no crisis. Most of the aspirants were returned unopposed ,because there were consensus. In our party ,we belief that consensus is a very important factor in having a united political leadership. So, all of them agreed, and some stepped down for others.
Apart from that, we have also used our stay here to reach out to some political bigwigs across the state, some of whose names I wouldn’t want to mention here ,but we have very prominent APC and PDP members coming to us and we had very successful discussions. Some of them are serving legislators.
Here, we have been communicating with Senator Shehu Sani, but it has not yielded positive result .But I want to use this opportunity to call on him to check out of APC. He should take the most dignified action by joining the most progressive family of SDP in his quest to send the current non performing APC government in Kaduna state packing.
The incessant harassment and embarrassing suspension being meted on SEN SHEHU SANI in his Kaduna State chapter of APC are indications that he is not wanted in the party ,because he is not a soul mate of the APC family ,who he likened on his Facebook page to a “clownish, amoral, perpetual hotel guest, whore client or a glorified and desperate thug”. The most dignified thing for SENATOR SHEHU SANI to do is to join the social Democratic Party in its promising quest to send the non performing and mass rejected APC government packing in Kaduna state. As it is today, we are formidably set to kick start our plan to take over the political landscape of Kaduna, from next week when the Saturday Congress would have produced fresh State Executive Committee.
These were the adjective he used to describe some people in the APC. The truth is that the people of Nigeria have rejected the APC. You know how many Governors, Senators and National Assembly members that have left the party within this one week. All these are indications that the people of his constituency have rejected APC because the party has not changed the fortunes of Nigeria. Nigerians cried and rejected the PDP because of the growing level of poverty and insecurity then, and they were carried away by the massive propaganda of the APC which they thought was going to change the tide for good but today, Nigerians are worst for it, we are poorer than we were before Buhari came in. The people of Kaduna state are poorer now than when El-Rufai came. The people of Nigeria are secured during Jonathan than now. If the people of Nigeria had ran away from PDP because of all these problems and ran to APC for succor which they never got, why should any right thinking and a true progressive minded person remain in that party? Shehu Sani should leave APC and join us so he can realize his quest to fix Nigeria and particularly Nigeria.
Q:With the current political situation in the country, a lot of Nigerians expected those decamping from APC to join SDP but they all rushed the PDP. What really went wrong with your Party?
Nothing went wrong. Majority of the political stakeholders are still looking forward to SDP, as I speak with you now, my National chairman, Olu Falae is in Abuja, he has been there holding marathon meetings with notable stakeholders across the political parties that include APC and PDP stakeholders looking for a way forward.
Now, one reason why you saw most of the legislators went to PDP was because there is the need for the opposition to maintain majority in the National Assembly, so the only option was to allow them go PDP way, since they were the only opposition side that has reasonable size of legislators in the assembly. You know if the defect to any other party, they will not be able to form the majority so it was a deliberate consensus within the 39 political parties that have signed MoU recently. We are in partnership, progressive minded members of PDP are still discussing with us. So one fact remained unquestionable today SDP remains the most vibrant and acceptable brand for Nigerian voters in the coming elections.
The name PDP will not sell because it was rejected just three years ago and APC is the worst. So when you look around you will ask which party is more on the ground apart from these two. You will recall that we were in government few years back when we produced the majority at the national assembly, in local government we had chairmen and we produced governors, so the name SDP is not new to Nigerians and our antecedents are excellent. We won presidential election and this was testified and recognised by APC government recently. So Nigerians will be comfortable with us. We also have some members at the National Assembly
Q:PDP is thinking of changing their name, is SDP going to collapse with the party?
I don’t know whether they will change their name or not but what we are hoping is that the out come of the collaboration we have gone into will turn out in our favour. The truth is that is an important political journey to be made by Nigerians and we need a brand new vehicle and an experience driver to embark on this journey because the road is very turbulent.
Obasanjo concerned is to send Buhari away but he was initially negotiating from an angle of NGO but when you discuss politics you don’t bring NGO inside it. So for Obasanjo to get political credibility in negotiation, he went and acquired ADC, in meetings now they mentioned his party not his name or the NGO again. Even as at that, how many state does ADC have? Obasanjo knows that ADC alone cannot chase Buhari away. As a matter of fact from the experience of 2015, we all know now that one party cannot win election in Nigeria again, it is impossible. You must coalition to achieve that and that is what we are currently building.
No no, no. How can you collapse a brand new Jeep into racketeer trailer that has waned out. The time to collapse as far as 2019 election is concerned is gone, merging cannot be possible again but only fussion. The government will use INEC to frustrate any merger, that is the truth and we know it. They will wait until election remains for tomorrow before you can get the approval, so nobody is looking for merger.
All the parties that have agreed to work together have their individual strong hold, we have ours too, but for resource, non can match PDP and in membership strength they have credible leaders too and SDP has, take for example our National Chairman, Olu Falae will never collect money from anybody to thwart decision. Olu Falae is an elder statesman, Former Minister, Former SSG and a former presidential runner-up. That is the man everybody trust, take note of that . Every aspirant knows that Falae cannot be bought over, he cannot compromised, everybody’s ticket is save in Falae’s hand, there will be nothing like impunity. Falae will not collect money to give ticket to another person no.
