Born on 3 July 1956 in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. Comrade Abba Moro, a three -times chairman of his LGA was born into the family of Chief Moro Agbamu of Okwungaga, Ugbokolo district of Okpokwu Local Government Area. His immense attachment to the academia took him to the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo in 1983, where he was employed as a lecturer, while at the polytechnic, he held several academic and management positions.
It is semblant that recent events have only served to guarantee his position as an undisputed political leader of the Idoma nation within and outside his party and he must be encouraged to exhibit this divine anointing in the overall interest of the country. He has already written his name in inexpungible medium and if the scenario were repeated a thousand times now and in the next world, Comrade Abba Moro name will be synonymous with democracy. Like the proverbial goldfish, that has no hiding place,
Comrade Abba Moro’s contributions to the political advancement and growth of Idoma land, Benue State and Nigeria at large, he has dignified him as a trailblazer, mentor and an achiever within the extinct iconoclastic colony of genuine and patriotic Nigeria leaders, voice to the voiceless, great achiever, sunshine of Idomanation, a man on mission with vision, an icon, a father to the fatherless, a teacher, a life coach, mentor, the ogigomebe kidoma 1 of generation, the people’s comrade, a philanthropist, a role model to so many, selfless comrade, job provider, kindhearted fellow.
Today, the harvest of political recognition, employment, educational and sports advancement that the Idoma nation has attained is greatly credited to him, His wisdom has been brought to bear at various points of our country’s political history, prominent among is when he was appointed Honorable Minister of Interior in 2011, a position he occupies till May 29, 2015. With in- depth knowledge and understanding in administration garnered over the years on assumption of office as Interior Minister, Comrade Moro knew that the challenges before him were enormous, but not insurmountable.
For a start, he embarked on re-structuring, reforming and repositioning of the four paramilitary agencies under the Interior Ministry which are – the Nigeria Immigration Service , the Nigerian Prisons Service , Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Fire Service. It is a known fact that Nigeria suffers from the challenge of having a very expansive and historically porous land border that covers over 4,000km sq. and 1,600km sq. marine border, the porosity of the nation border has no doubt contributed to some of the security challenges facing the country today as a result of the activities of illegal aliens who come into the country through the Nation’s porous borders.
To address this then the Ministry under Comrade Abba Moro came up with a master plan, with the training of 1000 immigration officers on modern border management system in Kano State for the sole purpose of securing the nation’s border posts and the Ministry under Comrade Moro worked on the deployment of modern technology on the Nation’s borders.
It is very paramount to state at this juncture that he should not relent in his quest to emancipate the Idoma nation who have been perpetually marginalized at the state. Although, unfair and unjust criticisms are imminent, he must continue to show unprecedented capacity for tolerance, understanding, forgiveness and allow God to fulfill His promise as stated in Psalm 68:1-2.
In whatever he thinks he could have done better, as a father, a leader and a comrade, he should not hesitate to make amends to enable him emerge an even better person. He must continue to give listening ears to the people.
He began his political career as Chairman elect of Okpokwu Local Government Council in 1998. He was the People’s Democratic Party candidate for the April 2007 Benue state governorship election but lost to the opposition party and on July 2011, he was appointed as honorable Minister of the Federal Ministry Of Interior by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He has received several awards from several newspapers, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Idoma people, institutions and many other awards too numerous to mention.
The overwhelmingly accepted Comrade Abba Moro is however contesting Benue South Senatorial District to further liberate his people, a greater responsibilities which is ahead of him, Happy Birthday to Comrade Abba Moro, an Icon @ 62..
