HEALTH: PHC Delivery System: Kaduna Government Signed MOU With Tulsi Chanrai Foundation

As part of efforts to strengthen Primary Health Care delivery system, in terms of proper Data Management, Monitoring and Supervision in all Local Governments, the Kaduna State Government, on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tulsi Chanrai Foundation.
The partnership according to the State Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Dogo, has become necessary because of the improved state of Primary Health Care (PHC), facilities in the state.

According to the commissioner “Now the PHCs have been upgraded, new ones are being built across the LGAs, but if service delivery is not monitored everything will go down the drain.
“The partnership with Primary Health Care Development Agency is unique and it is what we will be doing with it in the next few months that will take us to that milestone and this is timely too.” He added.

Speaking on behalf of Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, Colonel Ratredra Prasad, who led their delegation, said as an experience, professional and technical capacity and skills builders, the NGO is ready to continue her collaboration with the Kaduna State Government.

He explained that the “partnership is in the form of providing PHC Experts to work with State Primary Health Care Agency. TCF’s main efforts will be to strengthen the system which includes community mobilization, capacity building, quality health care, referral linkage, Health Management Information System, collaborating the Supply Chain Management and making the services accessible, affordable and accountable.

“The aim of this partnership programme is to achieve the health-related Sustainable Development Goal-3 by the year 2020.

“For achieving the above-mentioned objective, the focus of all activities will be to reduce maternal, neonatal, U5 Children mortality, control of Malaria, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Leprosy.

“The programme will cover all 23 LGAs in a phased manner, covering an estimated population of 8,397,543 served by 1068 primary health care facilities.”

Colonel Prasad, added that, “Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) is an international NGO engaged in the provision of Primary Health Care, Safe Drinking Water and Eye Care in Nigeria under an agreement with National Planning Commission of Federal Government of Nigeria since 1992.

“TCF has been working in partnership with State Governments and NPHCDA since 1997 implementing model PHC Projects in Oyo, Osun, Kaduna, Adamawa, Imo and Cross River States. “In partnership with Kaduna State Government, TCF implemented the Kachia PHC Project covering Kachia, Jaba and Z.Kataf LGAs from 2003 to 2013.

In her remarks, Executive Secretary, SPHCDA, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, noted that the MoU, will be a very strong pillar to build on in what the agency stands to achieve in the future.

She said the partnership is important at this point, especially on the demand side and thanked Tulsi Chanrai Foundation for selecting the state ahead of others.
