EDUCATION: Kaduna Polytechnic Students Gave Succour To Abandoned Community School

How kaduna polytechnic students rescued abandoned community school from collapsing , in other to saves village children fight against Illiteracy & continued schooling;

The Unguwan Kanti community in Igabi local Government –kaduna state has applauded the effort of Enactus kaduna polytechnic for coming to their village despite the ugly nature of the road and distance barriers, with the sole aims of improving the physical structure of the school building and decorating the 3 rooms classes with new tables and chairs, and provided other writing and playing materials ,so as to attract more village children from coming to the school for learning;

Speaking with TraceReporter  at the school premises, the District head of the community Mr Yahaya  Alkali that there are over 600 habitants in the villages, and they are predominantly farmers, fishermen, with women in the community who are mostly into commercial activities

Yahaya pointed out that there are over One hundred and fifty students in the three rooms classes in the community with just only one single teacher to handle them, adding that the job used to be too much for the Teacher,and as a result of that, the head –master of the school ,create additional time to help him some times in monitoring the students;

Hundreds of waste tyres and wood were converted for the construction of Tables and chairs for classroom used,and this has help in recycling them to protect the environment the dangers of pollution

Yahaya said,”All the children in the neighboring villages also do comes here for learning, and because of that there is the problems of over population of students in each and every one of the clasess,making it extremely more difficult for the teacher to evaluate the performance of the student in each and every one of the Three classrooms

According to the district of the village, before the arrival of Kaduna poly Enactus,”our children usually seat on the bear floor for reading and written ,and some of the school building is actually in a bad condition,

He said “the community construct the school for their children,and it’s the community that maintain all the activities ,the only role in which the state government is doing ,is the provision of school teachers which is just one Teacher and a Head-master”

“we are more grateful and thankful to Enactus kaduna Polytechnics for the humanitarian services they gave the community ,and that they will continued praying for Almighty God to assist the student union in moving forward”

Responding also the chief pastor of the village, Pastor John Sarki also told TraceReporter  that the community has been facing serious set-back due to lack of any social aminities that could improve lives of people living in the community

Pastor John says, insecurity challenges is another big problems disturbing peace stability in the area

Commenting on the project of the school Mr Fedelis Celestine who is the team leader of Enactus Kaduna polytechnic , he also told journalist the reason why they decided to help the village children.

He said,for so many years,they have been helping in many ways for better the lives of Thousands children of internally displaced person IDPs in Bolari-Camp,Borno state

Fedelis says,in Bolari –camp borno state ,we have constructed many Tables and chair and provided so- many learning materials to assist the IDPs children in terms of providing learning materials for the orphans,we then decided to also do something like that in kaduna village,and that is why we came-up with this project of helping in rebuilding the structure of the school ,and provide all the learning materials in the school.

Fedelis says,it is in response to over One million internally displaced children that lack access to education and over 3 million internally displaced persons(IDPs)that have lost their means of livelihood due to insurgency in the north-eastern Nigeria,that rely on Aids that make them vulnerable to be used by the insurgents;and one of the solution that kaduna Enactus provide One;To established an on –camp school system by constructing 6 class-room tents using waste Flex banners and 126 tables and chairs using waste tyres,Two ,developed a special curriculum for teaching the traumatized children and gave 252 children access to quality education in IDP camp,and also adopted and gave 11 children scholarship in top private school in kaduna state.

Fedelis says,”if we can do it in another state,why cant we do it also in kaduna state,and that is why we come –up with the idea of helping the village”

He said,when we come with our team to the village,we saw The dilapidated physical building of the school,we then decided to go into action in collaboration with the villagers,they came-out in mass,in which they provide the sand,water and other local materials which were used for the re-construction of the school,

Fedelis says”,we tough them also how to paint the school and repair the chairs and Tables for future used and also tough them so many skills in craftwork and entrepreneur ship “

Fedelia concluded by saying that Kaduna polytechnic Enastus in some of her activities some years back has yielded many positive result
